Description
This is the twenty forth volume in the acclaimed History and Society series.
This volume, in mobilising such a broad team of committed researchers, makes a major contribution to the restoration and enhancement of the heritage of Meath. Above all, it has the capacity to release the inspirational and creative resources of our heritage. As we embark upon the decade of commemorations, we recall that it was such a renewed cultural vision which energised those who forged modern Irish cultural identity and eventually established Irish sovereignty. For those leaders, like Eoghan O’Growney of Athboy, our heritage and tradition operated as a stimulus and an inspiration, rather than as a barrier. Now the scholarly and creative response to Meath’s rich legacy orchestrated in Meath History and Society helps realise for our own times that generous national vision. Níor chaill lucht an mhisnigh ariamh é.
